Facial Laser Treatments: Questions to Ask | Dr Sknn
Share
Facial laser treatments are not a single procedure. Devices and settings used for surface texture, unwanted hair, visible vessels and other appearance concerns differ, as do their risks and recovery. A laser treatments for the face search is therefore a starting point for questions, not a way to choose a device or book a procedure without assessment.
Start with the exact concern
Describe the change you hope to discuss rather than asking for a named machine. A new or changing mark, or persistent or symptomatic redness, should receive appropriate healthcare assessment before a cosmetic procedure. A facial laser consultation cannot diagnose a skin condition from a photograph or replace that assessment. Ask whether a non-laser option or no procedure is reasonable for your concern.
Ask about the proposed device and person
Ask for the exact service and device being proposed, why it suits your skin and concern, and who would perform it. Training and experience should be relevant to that device and treatment area. Terms such as fractional, ablative, non-ablative and intense pulsed light describe different approaches; IPL is not itself a laser. Mentioning a category here does not mean a Dr Sknn clinic offers every device in that category.
Discuss your skin tone, recent sun exposure, skin history, medicines and any previous reaction or change in pigmentation. Ask what may improve, what may remain the same, how many visits might be considered, and how the practitioner would judge whether to proceed or postpone. Before-and-after pictures are individual examples, not a prediction of your result.
Recovery, risk and cost
Recovery varies with the device, settings, treated area and individual. Possible adverse effects include burns, infection, scarring and darker or lighter pigmentation, as well as redness or discomfort. Ask for an individual preparation and aftercare plan, including whom to contact if healing concerns arise. Do not stop prescribed medicines or follow a fixed online protocol without advice from the relevant clinician.
Ask for the price or price range of the exact proposed service, whether more than one visit or follow-up may be needed, and any separate aftercare cost. Claims of painless treatment, no downtime or a guaranteed appearance change are not a substitute for a realistic conversation about benefits and risks.
Dr Sknn consultations
Dr Sknn is an independent private aesthetics and cosmetics clinic. Wilmslow is our primary clinic, Didsbury is active and Leigh is closed. Any facial laser service and eligible practitioner must be confirmed for the chosen clinic; not every treatment is available with every practitioner. Doctor, Nurse and Qualified Practitioner consultations are free. A Doctor booking may have a separate £50 reservation fee. The booking app shows the applicable cancellation and rescheduling terms before you confirm. For local provider-choice questions, see our laser clinic guide.
