A tear trough is the transition between the lower eyelid and upper cheek. Hyaluronic-acid filler may sometimes soften the appearance of a hollow by adding volume beneath the skin, but it is an elective procedure and is not suitable for every under-eye concern.

Darkness can come from hollowness and shadow, skin pigment, visible vessels, swelling, prominent fat pads, skin laxity or a combination of causes.
