Microneedling: What to Expect and What to Ask | Dr Sknn

What is microneedling?

Microneedling uses a device with fine needles to make controlled openings in the skin. People may consider it for the appearance of texture, fine lines or some scars. The exact device, treatment area and technique matter; no single protocol or result suits everyone. Radiofrequency microneedling is a different procedure and should not be assumed from the word “microneedling”.

What can it realistically change?

Some people may see an improvement in the appearance of selected concerns, while others may see little change. It should not be described as guaranteed collagen restoration, scar removal, a cure for acne or a substitute for surgery. A consultation should establish the goal, likely degree of change, alternatives and whether a procedure is suitable at all.

What should be checked before treatment?

Tell the clinician about current skin irritation, infection, wounds, previous scarring, treatments, medicines and any other factor that may affect healing. A changing mark, persistent rash or active medical skin problem needs appropriate healthcare assessment. Dr Sknn is an independent private aesthetics and cosmetics clinic; a cosmetic appointment does not replace that assessment.

What might happen afterwards?

Redness, sensitivity, swelling or temporary changes in skin appearance can occur. Infection, pigment change and scarring are also risks to discuss. Preparation, skincare, makeup, exercise and sun-exposure advice should come from the clinician and the exact device protocol; a universal number of hours or days is not reliable for every person. Follow the aftercare supplied for your appointment and seek prompt help if you develop concerning symptoms.
