Niacinamide Moisturiser: Evidence, Use and Limitations

What a niacinamide moisturiser may do

Niacinamide can be included in cosmetic moisturisers intended to support the skin barrier, hydration or the appearance of uneven tone. Evidence for one finished formulation does not prove that every strength or product will produce the same result.

Choose the whole formulation

Consider fragrance, texture, other active ingredients, packaging and how the product fits with the rest of the routine. A higher percentage is not automatically better and may increase irritation.

Introduce it gradually

Patch-test as directed where appropriate, begin with one new product and stop if marked burning, swelling or a worsening reaction develops. Do not layer several strong active products simply to seek a faster result.

Sun protection still matters

Niacinamide does not replace sunscreen. Use shade and suitable clothing together with a broad-spectrum sunscreen with at least SPF 30 and adequate UVA protection, following the label and reapplying as directed.

Cosmetic scope

A moisturiser cannot establish or treat the cause of persistent, painful, scarring or otherwise unexplained symptoms. Arrange an appropriate assessment before relying on a cosmetic product or booking a procedure.
