Hollow Cheeks: Appearance, Options & Limits | Dr Sknn

Hollow cheeks: start with what has changed

“Hollow cheeks” describes an appearance rather than a diagnosis. A cheek may look flatter because of natural facial shape, changing volume, weight change, lighting or a combination of factors. Not every shadow needs a cosmetic procedure, and a photograph alone cannot identify the cause.

Can skincare restore cheek volume?

Moisturiser and suitable sun protection can support the appearance and comfort of the skin. They do not replace deeper facial volume. Facial exercises, microneedling and laser treatments should not be promised to fill a hollow cheek. If a change is new, rapid, one-sided or accompanied by other symptoms, arrange appropriate healthcare assessment rather than relying on a cosmetic article.

What cosmetic options might be discussed?

A clinician may discuss whether changing contour with a suitable filler is an option after an individual assessment. The product, area and amount need their own decision; some people will prefer no procedure. Our cheek-filler amount guide explains why there is no standard dose. This guide does not imply that fat transfer or every device treatment is a Dr Sknn service.

What are the limits and risks of filler?

An injection can change visible contour, but it cannot treat every reason a cheek looks hollow. Bruising, swelling, tenderness, asymmetry, infection or nodules may occur. Rare vascular injury can cause skin damage or visual harm. Seek urgent assessment for severe or increasing pain, pale or dusky skin, or visual symptoms after an injection. No particular outcome, duration or recovery time is guaranteed.

How can I check suitability and availability?

Dr Sknn is an independent private aesthetics and cosmetics clinic. Wilmslow is our primary clinic, Didsbury is active, and Leigh is closed. Doctor, Nurse and Qualified Practitioner consultations are free; a separate £50 reservation fee applies to Doctor bookings. The Dr Sknn booking app shows the exact service, clinic, eligible practitioner, price and applicable cancellation and rescheduling terms. A consultation may conclude that no cosmetic procedure is appropriate.
