Laser Removal on the Face: Hair or Skin? | Dr Sknn
Share
“Laser removal on the face” can mean several different things. Unwanted facial hair, a scar, uneven texture and a pigmented mark are not removed by one interchangeable procedure. If you are considering a cosmetic laser, explain exactly what you hope to change before asking which device might be suitable.
If you mean unwanted facial hair
Laser hair treatment aims to reduce hair growth; it should not be described as guaranteed complete or permanent removal for everyone. Regrowth, repeat visits or maintenance may need discussion. Skin tone, hair colour and thickness, treatment area and device all matter. Ask whether the proposed service uses a laser or intense pulsed light (IPL), because these are different technologies, and ask what result is realistic for you.
If you mean a mark, scar or texture
A scar or texture concern needs a different assessment from facial hair. A new or changing mark should receive appropriate healthcare assessment before cosmetic treatment. Do not assume a laser can safely remove a lesion or erase a scar without trace. Ask what the exact proposed approach is intended to change, what may remain and what alternatives include doing nothing. This article does not diagnose a condition or establish that an exact mark-removal or resurfacing service is available at Dr Sknn.
Suitability, risk and aftercare
Ask which exact device and service would be proposed, who would perform it, and what training they have for your skin and treatment area. Discuss recent sun exposure, medicines, skin history and previous pigmentation or scarring. Possible harms include burns, infection, scarring and darker or lighter skin, as well as temporary redness or discomfort. Facial treatments also require appropriate eye protection.
Preparation and aftercare depend on the actual procedure and person. Do not follow a universal instruction to shave, stop hair-removal methods or apply a product at a fixed time from a general article. Ask for an individual plan, what recovery might mean for your usual activities and whom to contact if a concern arises. Before-and-after pictures are examples of individual outcomes, not a prediction of yours.
Cost and Dr Sknn consultations
Ask for the price or price range of the exact proposed service, whether multiple visits may be discussed and any separate aftercare cost. A course or package offer should not replace a suitability discussion. Dr Sknn is an independent private aesthetics and cosmetics clinic. Wilmslow is our primary clinic, Didsbury is active and Leigh is closed. Any facial laser service and eligible practitioner must be confirmed for the chosen clinic; not every treatment is available with every practitioner. Doctor, Nurse and Qualified Practitioner consultations are free. A Doctor booking may have a separate £50 reservation fee. The booking app shows the applicable cancellation and rescheduling terms before you confirm. For other facial laser questions, see our facial laser guide.
