At Dr Sknn we use the Lynton Lumina, a state-of-the-art Intense Pulsed Light System (IPL) which is also employed by the NHS and private hospitals across the UK to treat Port Wine Staining safely and effectively on skin types I-IV. By sending light at a certain wavelength range, we target absorption peaks in haemoglobin and oxy-haemoglobin, which allows us to treat Port Wine Staining at different sizes and depths with minimal damage to the surrounding skin. Post-treatment, the damaged vessels are absorbed by the body and barely any trace of the original lesion remains.

At Dr Sknn, with the application of IPL, light energy is utilised. The light is taken up by the Port Wine Staining, heating them to a point that results in spasm and/or collapse, thereby blocking them. In the weeks following the procedure, the hurt veins are slowly taken up by the body, leaving very little indication of the injury.

At Dr Sknn, a medical history and physical examination with photographs will be taken during the appointment, allowing the patient to voice any apprehensions, outlooks, consequences, or queries. Before undergoing the Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) session, the potential risks and aftercare tips related to the procedure are discussed in detail, needing the patient to sign a consent form. As an extra precaution, if the area is a novel one being treated, a small trial will be done to ensure compatibility.
