At Dr Sknn, the Lynton Lumina is employed, a state-of-the-art Intense Pulsed Light System (IPL) which is also used by the NHS and private hospitals across the UK, for safely and effectively dealing with Portwine Stain on skin types I-IV. By projecting light in certain wavelength ranges, absorption peaks in haemoglobin and oxy-haemoglobin are focused on, allowing us to treat Portwine Stain of various sizes and depths with minimal harm to the surrounding skin. After the treatment, the affected vessels are absorbed by the body, leaving hardly any indication of the initial lesion.

At Dr Sknn, IPL takes advantage of light energy, the light being taken in by the Portwine Stain which heat up to a level causing them to spasm and/or collapse. Subsequently, the ruined vessels are taken in by the body over the next few weeks, leaving very little or no trace of the original lesion.
